Christmas period is opportune for tasting typical sweets and discovering traditions that are renewed, year after year. We have recommended what delicacies to eat in Siena in a Guide to genuine flavors, while on this occasion we suggest you in which places you can taste Panforte, a speciy that is also a symbol of the town of Palio.

Of course, you can easily find Panforte at pastry shops, bakeries and at some restaurants in Siena; moreover, during the Christmas holidays it’s easy to buy Panforte also in the rest of Italy.
Despite this, we would like to suggest 4 pastry shops where to taste this and other local speciies, taking advantage of you visit to buy gifts that will delight the palate of your loved ones.

Let’s start with Pasticceria Sinatti, which has 3 shops in the town: Via Fiorentina 99, Via della Sapienza and Via Grossetana in San Rocco a Pili.
Sinatti is a landmark not only for the classic Panforte, but also for the variations such as the Panforte delle Dame (which is made with chocolate as additional ingredient), the Panforte Nero (which is made with spices and candied fruit wrapped in a layer of bitter cocoa) and the Panforte Fiorito (embellished with almond paste).
Take the opportunity to taste Copate and Ricciarelli, equally delicious Sienese sweets.
The Antica Drogheria Manganelli is well-known by the Sienese people because, in addition to selling Panforte, it is a place where to buy spices and other ingredients to prepare this cake at home.

Manganelli is located at Via di Città 71 and opened 1879, we also recommend it for the purchase of Sienese biscuits, wine, liqueurs, dried fruit, pasta and other Tuscan deli.

Il Forno Il Magnifico, at Via dei Pellegrini 27, is a stone’s throw from the Duomo and owes its name to Pandolfo Petrucci, known as Il Magnifico, who ruled Siena at the end of the XV century. Il Forno opened in 1952 and since then the family tradition in preparing Sienese sweets has been kept with great passion.
Il Magnifico is also a bakery and you can buy some typical speciies even at their online store: www.ilmagnifico.siena.it.

The Buti Pastry Shop (at Viale Vittorio Emanuele II 53) is among the best places not only for Panforte, but also for an exclusive sweet, called Caramellato, that you can find only here.
This delicacy is made with caramelized puff pastry and filled with Chantilly cream, and is available both as petit fours and as a cake.

The last address to mark in the itinerary of desserts is Via Dupré 37, where is located Nuova Pasticceria Dupré, reachable from Piazza del Campo by walking through the street immediately to the right of Palazzo Pubblico, if you have the Fonte Gaia behind you.

It ‘s a pastry shop frequented by the Sienese people and offers a wide variety of sweets of various regional traditions, as well as Ricciarelli, Cantucci, Cavallucci and Panforte, the must-eats that every tourist should taste.
The pastry workshop is located in the Toselli area and is the place where desserts are prepared daily with the excellent raw materials selected by the best local suppliers.

Now you have no excuses: for Christmas or other times of the year you will always find the most famous sweet symbol of Siena, to taste on the spot or to take away, maybe even after trying the Vin Santo wine as pairing.
