Siena Vacation – Location and Directions to Palazzo Ravizza
A Siena vacation should be a wonderful and relaxing experience: as for most italian destinations transport and road directions can be a cheallange. So, please follow the correct directions to make sure you start on the right foot and don’t hesitate to ask for more detailed information at any time.
ARRIVING TO SIENA BY TRAIN
Because the train staion is located outside the city centre you shall have to take a taxi (outside the station) to get to the hotel (approx. 15 min.). Because the city of Siena is not on any of the main national train tracks, you might want to consider taking buses from both Rome (3 hours) and Florence (1 hour, the fast one “Rapida”), avoiding train changes and saving time.
ARRIVING TO SIENA BY BUS
Buses from other cities (Rome and Florence) stop at the train station an then in the city centre in the square Piazza Gramsci. From here you can either walk through the town (15-20 min.) towards the Cathedral, whereby the hotel is, or take a taxi in the nearby Piazza Matteotti square.
ARRIVING TO SIENA BY CAR
Driving to the centre town, it is important to remind you that most of it has limited traffic zones and that you must enter from the closest gateway to where you need to go, which in our case is Porta San Marco (signs Porta San Marco and Duomo).
Also the most convenient way to go around the city centre is the ring road (tangenziale) which connects the main roads coming to Siena from Florence, Grosseto and Rome. Along the ring road “tangenziale” the exit for our part of town is named “Siena Ovest”, from which you should follow signs for Porta San Marco and Duomo, besides “Palazzo Ravizza”.
Entering the city walls from the gate Porta San Marco, you’ll find signs that lead you strait to the hotel in a few minutes.
ARRIVING TO SIENA BY CAR – SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS
FROM ROME (km 230 - estimated time 2 hours and 45 min)
- Take the motorway A1, direction Florence (north);
- Exit at Val di Chiana;
- Take the SS 71 towards Siena;
- Approching Siena (2 km. before) take the ring road Tangenziale in the direction of Florence (Firenze);
- Exit Siena Ovest and, at the round about, follow sings for Porta San Marco/ Duomo/ Palazzo Ravizza;
- Enter at the Porta San Marco gate and follow signs for the hotel.
FROM BOLOGNA/FLORENCE (Km 60 - estimated time 1 hour)
If you are driving along the mai motorway coming from the north (Milan or Bologna):
- Exit at Firenze Certosa and take the four lane road for Siena (green signs) which you find immediately after the tool
- Exit Siena Ovest and, at the round about, follow sings for Porta San Marco/ Duomo/ Palazzo Ravizza
- Enter at the Porta San Marco gate and follow signs for the hotel
FROM FLORENCE AIRPORT (Km 80 - estimated time 1 hour 15 min)
At the traffic light just outside the airport, turn immediately right and take the four lane road towards the motorway (A1) direction Rome
- Enter the motorway through the tool in direction Rome (south)
- Exit after about 15 Km at Firenze Certosa and take the four lane road for Siena (green signs) which you find immediately after the tool
- Exit Siena Ovest and, at the round about, follow sings for Porta San Marco/ Duomo/ Palazzo Ravizza
- Enter at the Porta San Marco gate and follow signs for the hotel
FROM PISA AIRPORT - Suggested faster and scenic Route (Km 120 estimated time 1 hour and 45 min)
- Take the four lane road (FI-PI-LI) in direction Florence
- Exit the four lane road (FI-PI-LI) and exit at Ginestra
- Follow local road towards Cerbaia – San Casciano (20 km)
- At San Casciano follow signs for the four lane road Raccordo Firenze-Siena
- Enter in direction Siena (approx 40 km)
- Exit Siena Ovest and, at the round about, follow sings for Porta San Marco/ Duomo/ Palazzo Ravizza
- Enter at the Porta San Marco gate and follow signs for the hotel
